Shut the fuck up, they did not. They did not have to do shit. Bruce learned from raising Dick and having Dick around, Dick did not have to take care of Bruce or shit. He learned from Dick behaving lile a kid and having to deal with that, not from Dick taking his hand and teaching him. Tim literally only had to be there for Bruce to be better, it is explained in A Lonely Place of Dying that Bruce needs a child to take care of, and that's what Tim is, a child Bruce can take care of. They weren't parentified to take care of Bruce instead of him taking care of their emotional and mental wellbeing. HE TOOK CARE OF THEIR EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL WELLBEING. Damn, with Tim, he does it when his parents don't. With Dick, it's the whole point how Bruce took him to take care of his emotional and mental wellbeing because nobody did for Bruce, and Bruce succeeded.

Stop infantilizing autistic adults. Bruce being autistic and having difficulties with communication, emotions and relationships because of it doesn't mean his kids were the one taking care of him. It means his kids had to learn how it is to interact with an autistic or neurodivergent person.

Bruce being well only when he has a kid to take care of is what is difficult for the kids, because it makes the process of becoming an adult more difficult when your dad needs a kid.

I challenge y'all to be able to talk about Bruce being mentally ill without painting it as a burden to his family, because that's the only way you ever do it.

i don't think dean ever really thought that mary would go back to cutting the crusts off his sandwiches and singing him lullabies. i do think that he thought that with mary around he might have someone to help shoulder some of the burden he feels. finally, there's an adult in the room, someone who can take care of some of this (the state of their family but also the state of the world). and when he sees mary not only not taking on that responsibility but actively avoiding it? and not even recognizing that he's carrying it? yeah, i can see why he's upset.

hot take but i think if someone's parent(s) have died the government should support the remaining child/adult children with financial stuff to the age 26 (the age it is for other adult children to remain on their parent's healthcare plans, car insurance, ect) because I should not have been paying bills or losing healthcare at 17

There's something so poetic about how El is the centre of all the chaos, wanted by the government and military and Mike is her strong calm that doesn't hesitate to get sucked into her storm and stand by her side in the face of any conflict. Like guys. This little boy did not hesitate to protect her and stand off in the face of the government to defend her, going against all the typical patriotic rule-following norms of an American Suburbanite Middle class nuclear family. He comes from pure safe normalcy but doesn't hesitate to run in the other direction heading towards chaos and danger if it means she's there... because he feels safest with her and is driven by the instinct to protect her. 😭🩷 There's something so beautiful and inspiring about someone as hurt and troubled and chaotic as El being loved in such a simple, unconditional way. Mike doesn't see her for the chaos she represents which surrounds her, he sees her for the innocent goodness that she actually is— her calm, gentle demeanour and the warmth it makes him feel. He understands that all the danger that comes with being with her is through no fault of her own, and actively works to help combat all the forces against her. He knows that despite being the centre of the chaos she's not the cause of it, she's the remedy for the effect of it and that is an undeserved, exhausting punishment yet a burden she bears regardless without complaint— a sign of her innate goodness which Mike recognises and loves her for all the more. Even moreso, he works to share that burden with her and criticise it because he sees how innocent and undeserving she is of the responsibility infringed upon her. His willingness to take all of this on is so wholesome and exactly the kind of sweet effort-full love that a character like El deserves, which is so gratifying for the audience to see.

no no you guys don't get it. the x files cancer arc was, excuse the pun, a fucking white whale of a tv plotline that would not have worked nearly as well on literally any other show. it was a complete hail mary. the writers' room nearly didn't make it happen because they were worried it would fall too deeply into soap opera territory. and on any other show, it would! but the x files is about four key things: mistrust in the government, faith in both science and the otherworldly, building a life around trauma, and the fine line between love and codependency. it is the only show where the entirety of this situation- a government experiment on an unwilling young catholic leads to a terminal illness that is counteracted by a literal scientific miracle in the eleventh hour due to her partner's refusal to accept her impending death- could both happen at all and happen well. none of the themes in the cancer arc were new to txf at all. they'd all been lurking, to some extent, in the background since the pilot. the cancer arc wasn't merely milking a left-field catastrophe for the drama, it shoved the overarching themes of the show to the front and said look. look what these people are to each other. look how impossible it is to face the darkness alone. regardless of when the plotline was conceived, it was always going to happen. it was the only way the story could have ever gone. they were always doomed from the beginning

bc i'm incapable of not thinking about incredibly arbitrary things: here's how i headcanon the gang's ages/birthdates. i can’t remember any specifics about if birthdays have been mentioned, so this is me and dr. google doing some guessing together.

CHARLIE

Charlie is the oldest (when he thinks Frank might be his dad, he tells Dennis and Dee that he’s their ‘big bro’, implication obviously being that he is older than them). According to the internet, he’s a 1976 baby. To me, his birthday is on or before the first of September, 1976, putting him a grade above the rest of them (because the cut off is ‘age 5 on or before September 1st’). I don’t know if they flunk kids in kindergarten, but assumedly some time around 1st grade, he got held back, subsequently landing in the same grade as the rest of them.

2 & 3. DEE AND DENNIS

Following this logic, Dee and Dennis are also born in 1976 (because they are younger than Charlie). I like them being born somewhere between September and December, 1976, putting them a grade below Charlie (until he is held back). We also know that Dee was born 3 minutes before Dennis. 

4. MAC

And unforch, I am a sucker for baby Mac and I think being the youngest would give him a complex which is entertaining to me. He is in the same grade as the rest of them, but born in the summer of 1977 (but before September 1st), which makes him like, a full calendar year younger than Charlie, and nearly a year younger than Dee and Dennis. But, he would've been with Charlie in school at the start of whatever school year Charlie got held back in.

So, the official age order (as far as I am concerned) is: Charlie (btwn. Jan-Aug 31st, 1976), Dee (btwn. Sept-Dec 1976), Dennis (3 minutes after Dee), Mac (btwn Jun-Aug 31st, 1977). With all my logic stated above, the gang will all end up in the same grade, and therefore the same graduating class in high school.

If anyone's got some extra tidbits of information abt ages plz feel free to lmk :)
